About IASK INDIA

The International Academy of Shotokan Karate-Do (IASK) is a distinguished institution dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the ancient martial art of Shotokan Karate. Founded in the year 2012 by the visionary martial artist Sensei Ravindra Kumar, IASK has grown to become a prominent member of the prestigious "Shotokan Karate-Do International Federation Japan (SKIF Japan)."

Our headquarters are nestled in the heart of New Delhi, India, serving as the epicenter of our mission to propagate the art and ethos of Shotokan Karate throughout the country and beyond. At IASK, we embrace the principles of discipline, respect, and continuous self-improvement, in keeping with the rich tradition of this revered martial art.

One of the driving forces behind the establishment of IASK was the invaluable suggestion of Soke Hirokazu Kanazawa, a living legend in the world of martial arts, holding the esteemed rank of 10th Dan. Sensei Ravindra Kumar's close association with Soke Kanazawa reflects his commitment to upholding the highest standards of Shotokan Karate.

IASK proudly boasts a growing network of branches across India, each led by dedicated instructors who share our passion for Karate. These branches serve as hubs for learning, growth, and camaraderie, where students of all ages and backgrounds come together to train, forge lasting friendships, and foster a sense of unity through Karate.

One of our hallmark events is the annual invitation extended to Japanese master instructors from SKIF HQ to provide world-class training and conduct Black Belt Dan Grading Examinations. This tradition ensures that our members receive the most authentic and advanced training, directly from the source, further enhancing their skills and knowledge.

At IASK India, we have always believed in the power of inclusivity and unity. We extend a warm welcome to all individuals and organizations who share our passion for Shotokan Karate and wish to join hands with us in our journey. Whether you are a seasoned practitioner or a newcomer eager to explore the world of martial arts, IASK offers you a nurturing and supportive environment to pursue your Karate aspirations.

We are more than an organization; we are a family bound by a common love for the art of Shotokan Karate and a shared vision of promoting its essence across India and beyond. Join the IASK India family and become a part of our enduring legacy in the world of martial arts. Together, we strive for excellence and embody the true spirit of Shotokan Karate-Do.

What is Karate-Do

In Okinawa, a miraculous and mysterious martial art has come down to us from the past. It is said that one who masters its techniques can defend himself readily without resort to weapons and can perform remarkable feats: the breaking of several thick boards with his fist or ceiling panels of a room with a kick. With his shuto ("sword hand") he can kill a bull with a single stroke; he can pierce the flank of a horse with his open hand; he can cross a room grasping the beams of the ceiling with his fingers, crush a green bamboo stalk with his bare hand, shear a hemp rope with a twist, or gouge soft rock with his hands.

Some consider these aspects of this miraculous and mysterious martial art to be the essence of Karate-do. But such feats are a small part of karate, playing a role analogous to the straw-cutting test of kendo [Japanese fencing], and it is erroneous to think that there is no more to Karate-do than this. In fact, true Karate-do places weight upon spiritual rather than physical matters, as we shall discuss. True Karate-do is this: that in daily life, one's mind and body be trained and developed in a spirit of humility; and that in critical times, one be devoted utterly to the cause of justice.

Karate for Women

Karate can equip a woman with self-defence capabilities. Millions of women around the world enjoy the benefits of KARATE training. They have come to realise that participating in the masculine art of self-defence and keeping themselves trim, attractive, beautiful & feminine can go hand in hand. Karate can help them overcome a crisis situation, and all the side effects of Karate training like keeping the body strong, trim and healthy are extra bonus.

Karate for Kids

A positive classroom environment is essential to a child's ability to learn. At Thousand Waves we present karate to children as a body, mind, & spirit practice. The mental & physical elements of Shotokan Karate improve their fitness, concentration & coordination. They also learn the Self-Defence, including age appropriate skills for dealing with bullying & other forms of violence.

Karate for Adults

Our adults Karate programs are designed to challenge all levels of fitness without feeling overwhelming. Our instructors will help to tailor the exercises to work within your fitness ability. Classes are built on a structure of cardio vascular conditioning, muscular strength and toning and flexibility using traditional Shotokan Karate training as the foundation.
